25 Years in the making, Creo the Next Generation of 3D CAD

PTC are in the unique position of owning proven technologies for both parametric modeling in Pro/ENGINEER and direct modeling in CoCreate. The combination of these elements is the recipe for the next generation of 3D CAD, Creo!  A true hybrid ANYmode modeling environment on a common data model.

“Creo is being specifically created to solve the big problems remaining in the mechanical CAD market: usability, interoperability, assembly management and technology lock-in,” said James E. Heppelmann, president and CEO, PTC. “By providing the right-size product design apps for each participant in a company’s extended product development team, Creo will enable more people to participate earlier and more fully in the product development process, significantly expanding innovation capacity.”

Creo AnyData Adoption

Customers have to be able to use information that might be coming from a supplier or from a customer, and those customers or suppliers might be creating data in another CAD system. It’s impractical, if not impossible, to create an environment where everyone you ever have to work with will use YOUR favourite CAD software.

That’s why AnyData Adoption is an essential part of the Creo vision.

Creo AnyRole Apps

One of the core tenets behind Creo is to offer the right apps with just the right capability, no more, no less. You’re probably familiar with iPhone apps, we’re using the apps approach to make sure that anyone involved in product development can access the tool that’s exactly right for the work at hand. We’re planning to offer apps for direct modeling, parametric modeling, conceptual engineering, visualization, 3D technical illustration, 2D design, simulation, and more.

Creo AnyMode Modeling

For Creo, we’re defining a scalable, unified, common data model. That’s what we mean when we say, Creo AnyMode Modeling offers people the ability to freely mix and match 2D, 3D direct, or 3D parametric modes, working together on a common data model. When moving data from one mode to another, you won’t lose intelligence or design intent.

Creo AnyBOM Assembly

AnyBOM Assembly takes away the headaches of manually generating infinite numbers of 3D configurations from the BOM. It makes product development substantially more versatile, more efficient, and more supportive of teamwork. It results in higher product confidence because it allows—potentially for the first time ever—serial number-specific product configurations to be viewed and validated in the CAD system.
